DEAD DAWN (2026): New Horror-Comedy Trailer Unleashed Ahead of Los Angeles Premiere

There's something about a good horror-comedy that just works, isn't there? One minute you're laughing, the next you're wondering whether you should be laughing at all. And that's exactly the sort of territory independent filmmaker Aaron Jay Rome is exploring with his latest feature, Dead Dawn. The 103-minute film blends supernatural horror, small-town crime and pitch-black comedy, with Ashley Lenz leading an ensemble that includes Olivia Grace Applegate, Malcolm Goodwin, David Anders, Krishna Smitha and Michael Papajohn. With its official trailer now available to watch, Dead Dawn is preparing for a Los Angeles premiere on Saturday, 7 November 2026, as part of a double-feature event at Lumière Cinema in Beverly Hills.

What Is Dead Dawn About?

Meet Anna-Beth, played by Ashley Lenz.

She's a small-town postal clerk who seems to have spent her entire life being pushed around.

There's the difficult customer, the demanding boss and an ex who simply won't leave her alone. Anna-Beth is the sort of person everybody overlooks, the woman who keeps her head down and gets on with things while the world takes advantage.

But everybody has a breaking point.

And when something dark arrives with the dawn, Anna-Beth discovers she's capable of rather more than anyone imagined.

The film promises a mixture of supernatural horror, true-crime intrigue and very dark humour, with an unlikely anti-hero at the centre of it all.

What interests me is the idea of an ordinary person being pushed beyond their limits. Horror has always been good at exploring what happens when seemingly normal people find themselves in extraordinary circumstances.

And sometimes the most frightening thing isn't the monster hiding in the shadows.

It's what the person standing next to you might be capable of.

The filmmakers are sharing the trailer publicly ahead of the film's Los Angeles event.

For fans of independent horror, Dead Dawn offers something different from the usual masked killer or haunted-house story, blending small-town desperation with the promise of something supernatural and decidedly unpleasant.

Whether the film balances comedy and horror remains to be seen, but the premise certainly has our attention.

Casting

A Cast Horror and Television Fans Will Recognise

One of the interesting things about Dead Dawn is its cast.

Alongside Ashley Lenz, the film features Malcolm Goodwin, familiar to viewers of Reacher and iZombie, and David Anders, whose television credits include The Vampire Diaries, Heroes and iZombie.

The cast also includes Olivia Grace Applegate, known for Love & Death; Krishna Smitha from Silicon Valley; and Michael Papajohn, whose screen career spans a wide range of film and television appearances.

It's a recognisable ensemble for an independent production, giving genre fans a few familiar faces to watch for.

Aaron Jay Rome directs the film, with writing credits shared with producer Isaiah LaBorde.

Beverly Hills Premiere

Dead Dawn Heads to Beverly Hills on 7 November

Following a screening at Screamfest New Orleans on 18 October, Dead Dawn is heading to Los Angeles for a special red-carpet event alongside Rome's other completed feature, the cosmic-horror thriller SILT.

The event takes place on Saturday, 7 November 2026, at Lumière Cinema at the Music Hall, 9036 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills.

The red carpet begins at 5 pm Pacific Time, with doors opening at 6 pm. Dead Dawn is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm, followed by SILT at 8:45 pm, with filmmaker Q&A sessions included.

Both films are currently seeking distribution, so this event shouldn't be mistaken for the announcement of a nationwide cinema release or streaming launch.

The filmmakers are also encouraging audiences to register their interest in bringing the films to cinemas through their Demand the Screen campaign.

Horror Movies

Why Independent Horror Still Matters

If there's one genre that has never needed a massive Hollywood budget to make an impression, it's horror.

Some of the most memorable horror films have come from filmmakers willing to take risks, try something different and make the most of the resources available to them.

And that's part of what makes independent horror worth keeping an eye on.

You never quite know where the next cult favourite is going to come from.

Dead Dawn has an unusual central character, a recognisable cast and a premise that could lend itself to both uncomfortable laughs and genuinely nasty surprises.

Will it become one of those films horror fans are still talking about years from now?

We'll have to wait and see.

But for now, if you enjoy your horror with a generous helping of dark humour, Dead Dawn might be worth putting on your radar.
