Brad Pitt Returns as Cliff Booth as Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Follow-Up Gets Official Title

Netflix revealed the new title on Wednesday, August 26.

The project was previously known as The Adventures of Cliff Booth, but it now officially carries the slightly more mischievous title The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.

The title feels entirely appropriate for the character.

Cliff was already one of the highlights of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, wandering through Tarantino's alternate version of Los Angeles with the relaxed attitude of a man who appeared completely unfazed by almost anything.

Including an entire ranch occupied by the Manson Family.

Brad Pitt's performance ultimately earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Now we'll find out what happened next.

The new film takes place eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

That brings us to Los Angeles in 1977.

And Cliff isn't simply working as Rick Dalton's stunt double anymore.

According to today's report, he's now working as a Hollywood studio fixer.

That's almost worryingly perfect.

If you've seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, you'll know Cliff is rather good at solving problems.

Admittedly, his solutions occasionally involve fists, tins of dog food and an extremely well-trained pit bull.

But the problems do tend to get solved.

Moving the story into 1977 also gives the film an entirely different Hollywood to explore.

The old studio era had collapsed.

The New Hollywood generation was in full swing.

Star Wars arrived.

Saturday Night Fever arrived.

Punk was exploding.

And the movie business Cliff Booth knew in 1969 was rapidly becoming something else.

Dropping this particular character into that world sounds bloody fascinating.

Here's the unusual part.

Quentin Tarantino isn't directing.

He wrote the screenplay, but David Fincher is behind the camera.

That gives us the fascinating prospect of one of Tarantino's most memorable characters being handed to the director of Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network and Gone Girl.

Fincher and Pitt also have quite a history together.

They previously collaborated on Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Now they're doing it again.

Only this time Brad Pitt is arriving with a character created by Quentin Tarantino.

That's quite a combination.

Pitt leads an impressive ensemble.

The reported cast includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Holt McCallany and Timothy Olyphant.

There's another particularly nice connection for fans of the original film.

Olyphant is returning as James Stacy, the Western actor he played in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

So Cliff won't be the only familiar face wandering around this later version of Los Angeles.

And Peter Weller being involved?

The man who gave us RoboCop turning up in a David Fincher movie written by Quentin Tarantino is exactly the sort of sentence we enjoy writing around here.

Tarantino's original film took place against the backdrop of Hollywood in 1969.

Leonardo DiCaprio played fading television star Rick Dalton, while Pitt played his longtime stunt double, driver and friend Cliff Booth.

Their fictional story eventually collided with real Hollywood history through Sharon Tate and members of Charles Manson's cult.

Well...

Tarantino's version of history, anyway.

The ending famously rewrote what happened on the night of August 8, 1969, with Cliff finding himself the victim of a home invasion.

That turned out to be a fairly serious mistake on the intruders' part.

Cliff survived.

Rick Dalton survived.

And Sharon Tate survived.

Now Tarantino has apparently decided there was considerably more story left in Cliff Booth.

Here's another interesting part of the announcement.

Netflix isn't simply dropping the movie onto the service.

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will first open exclusively in IMAX cinemas on November 25, 2026.

It will then arrive on Netflix on December 23.

That's a significant theatrical push for a Netflix film, and it makes a lot of sense given the talent involved.

A Fincher movie.

Written by Tarantino.

Starring Brad Pitt.

Set in 1970s Hollywood.

That's something we'd rather see on a bloody enormous cinema screen than watching it from the sofa.

This isn't some project that's still sitting around waiting to happen either.

The production has already completed filming.

According to TheWrap, the movie wrapped its seven-month Los Angeles shoot in January.

The report also puts the production budget at around $200 million, which would make it an enormous undertaking.

That means we're considerably further down the road than the usual Hollywood announcement where somebody says they're “developing” something and then we spend the next six years wondering whether it'll ever exist.

Cliff Booth has already been back in front of the cameras.

Now we're waiting to see what Fincher has done with him.

Naturally, there's one name everybody is going to wonder about.

Rick Dalton.

Leonardo DiCaprio's struggling actor was the other half of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and the friendship between Rick and Cliff formed the heart of the original movie.

Today's title announcement doesn't establish DiCaprio as part of the reported cast.

So we're not going to pretend he's secretly appearing.

Maybe he does.

Maybe he doesn't.

For now, this is very clearly Cliff Booth's story.

And honestly?

Cliff is interesting enough to carry one.

There's something wonderfully strange about this entire project.

Tarantino created Cliff Booth.

Brad Pitt turned him into one of his most memorable characters.

And now David Fincher gets to take him somewhere completely different.

That's not how sequels usually work.

It also means we're not simply getting Tarantino trying to recreate Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Fincher will inevitably bring his own filmmaking sensibility to the material.

How much of Tarantino's voice survives?

How different will Cliff feel inside a Fincher movie?

What exactly does a studio fixer get up to in 1977 Hollywood?

And how many people will make the terrible mistake of underestimating him this time?

UPDATE — August 27, 2026: After months of being referred to by various working titles, Brad Pitt's Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood follow-up finally has an official name.

Netflix has revealed that David Fincher's movie will be called The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, with Pitt returning to the Oscar-winning role he first played in Quentin Tarantino's 2019 film.

The title was revealed alongside a new teaser giving us another look at Pitt back as Cliff Booth.

Netflix has also confirmed exactly when we'll get to see it. The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will receive an exclusive two-week global IMAX run beginning November 25, 2026, before arriving on Netflix on December 23, 2026.

Fincher directs from a screenplay written by Tarantino, making this the latest collaboration between Fincher and Pitt following Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

So after months of simply calling it the Cliff Booth movie, we can finally put a proper name to one of 2026's most intriguing sequels:

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.
