DEVELOPING STORY

THE STORY

Seven years after Avengers: Endgame became one of the biggest cinematic events of all time, Marvel fans are proving that there is still an enormous appetite to experience it all over again. The trailer for Avengers: Endgame Encore, Marvel Studios' upcoming theatrical re-release of the 2019 blockbuster, generated an extraordinary 77 million views in its first 24 hours. That isn't simply a strong result for a movie audiences have already seen. It is a new record for a theatrical re-release trailer — and by an enormous margin.

THE AVENGERS ARE ASSEMBLING AGAIN

77 Million Views in Just 24 Hours

According to Deadline, the Avengers: Endgame Encore trailer clocked 77 million views globally during its first day.

For comparison, the previous record belonged to the 2026 40th-anniversary re-release of Top Gun, whose trailer generated approximately 19 million views during the same period.

That means Endgame Encore attracted more than four times as many views.

Other major theatrical returns have produced considerably smaller numbers, with the re-release trailers for Avatar and Titanic reportedly generating 14 million and 13 million first-day views respectively.

For a seven-year-old movie whose story and ending millions around the world already know, those numbers are remarkable.

But this isn't quite an ordinary re-release.

BACK TO 2019

Marvel Is Selling the Endgame Experience

The Endgame Encore campaign is leaning heavily into something many Marvel fans remember vividly: what it felt like to watch the movie with a packed cinema audience in 2019.

Rather than pretending audiences don't know what happens, the marketing embraces those memories.

Avengers: Endgame arrived in cinemas in April 2019 as the culmination of more than a decade of interconnected Marvel storytelling. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo brought together characters and storylines stretching back to 2008's Iron Man.

The result became a genuine pop-culture event.

Endgame eventually grossed almost $2.8 billion worldwide, briefly becoming the highest-grossing movie in cinema history before Avatar reclaimed the position following its own theatrical re-release.

Now Marvel wants audiences back in those cinema seats.

THE ROAD TO DOOMSDAY

Avengers: Endgame Encore Isn't Just a Nostalgia Trip

Another very important reason Marvel fans are paying attention is this.

Marvel Studios has confirmed that Avengers: Endgame Encore will include an exclusive preview of Avengers: Doomsday, giving audiences an early look at the next Avengers event.

Marvel's official announcement confirms the film will return to cinemas on September 25, 2026, ahead of Avengers: Doomsday arriving later this year.

That connection appears to be a major part of the extraordinary interest surrounding the Encore trailer.

Avengers: Doomsday reunites Marvel with Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo and represents another major crossover event for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It also brings Robert Downey Jr. back into the MCU in an entirely different capacity, playing Victor von Doom.

For fans following Marvel's next chapter, the Endgame re-release therefore offers considerably more than another opportunity to watch an old favourite on a huge screen.

SEVEN YEARS LATER

Endgame Still Has an Extraordinary Hold on Marvel Fans

Perhaps the most interesting part of the 77-million-view figure is what it says about Avengers: Endgame itself.

The MCU has changed enormously since 2019.

New heroes have arrived, old characters have departed and Marvel has expanded further into television, alternate universes and the Multiverse Saga.

Yet Endgame remains a defining moment for the franchise.

For an entire generation of moviegoers, memories of opening weekend — packed cinemas, huge audience reactions, and desperately trying to avoid spoilers — became part of the experience.

The response to the Encore trailer suggests Marvel has successfully tapped directly into those memories.

And with 77 million trailer views in a single day, plenty of fans apparently wouldn't mind hearing the words “Avengers… assemble” inside a packed cinema one more time.

Can Avengers: Endgame Become a Box-Office Phenomenon Twice?

Re-releasing successful movies is nothing new.

Studios have brought classics back to cinemas for decades, whether to celebrate anniversaries, introduce them to new generations, or simply give fans the chance to experience them on the big screen again.

But 77 million trailer views put Avengers: Endgame Encore in unusual territory.

Marvel isn't merely selling tickets to a seven-year-old movie. It's selling the memory of one of the biggest communal cinema experiences of the modern blockbuster era—while also pointing audiences toward Avengers: Doomsday.

Whether that enthusiasm translates into another enormous box-office run remains to be seen.

One thing already seems clear, though.

Seven years later, audiences still aren't quite ready to say goodbye to the Endgame.
