Vince Vaughn
Vince Vaughn built his screen career around a rare ability to make confidence, irritation and panic arrive in the same breath. Born in Minneapolis on March 28, 1970, he decided to pursue acting in 1987 and moved to Hollywood after appearing in a Chevrolet commercial the following year. His first film role came in Rudy, where he played Notre Dame tailback Jamie O’Hara. Swingers brought wider attention in 1996, giving Vaughn room to establish the quick, conversational energy that would become central to his comedy. Steven Spielberg subsequently cast him as Nick Van Owen in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, moving him from a talk-driven independent comedy into the machinery of a major adventure film. The mid-2000s made especially good use of Vaughn’s comic rhythm. In DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story, he played the comparatively grounded centre of an aggressively ridiculous sports comedy. He also appeared in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and the action-comedy Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Wedding Crashers paired him with Owen Wilson, and their chemistry helped turn the film’s bad behaviour and escalating complications into one of Vaughn’s defining comedy showcases. That run established him as a leading man in studio comedies, but his work has not stayed in one lane. His later roles include the second season of True Detective, the war film Hacksaw Ridge, Brawl in Cell Block 99, Dragged Across Concrete and the body-swap horror comedy Freaky. In 2024, he starred in the television drama Bad Monkey as a detective turned restaurant inspector. Vaughn has also worked as a screenwriter, film and television producer, and co-wrote The Internship. Across comedy, drama, thrillers and television, his most distinctive performances draw on the same underlying quality: a restless screen presence that can feel persuasive, combative or unexpectedly vulnerable, sometimes within a single exchange.
