Roger L. Jackson

Roger L. Jackson’s career is a reminder that screen presence does not always require a face. Born in Atlanta on July 13, 1958, the American actor and voice actor is best known for giving Ghostface a voice in the Scream franchise. His controlled, threatening delivery became a defining part of the masked killer, allowing the character to feel disturbingly close even when heard from a distance. Jackson later brought the voice to the third season of the Scream television series and returned for the fifth Scream film and Scream VI. That horror work is only one side of a remarkably varied voice career. In The Powerpuff Girls, Jackson voiced the verbose primate supervillain Mojo Jojo as well as Rowdyruff Boy Butch. He carried Mojo Jojo into The Powerpuff Girls Movie and the online game FusionFall, showing the more exaggerated, comic energy in his range. His animation work also includes Disney’s The Book of Pooh. Video games have given Jackson an especially broad collection of characters. In American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns, he voiced the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the Dormouse and the Jabberwock. Other roles include Colonel Nohman in Zone of the Enders and its sequel, John O’Conner in Fade to Black, and Chuck, also known as Charles, in Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead. His credits also extend to Final Fantasy X, King’s Quest VII, Galleon, Baldur’s Gate and several Star Wars and Star Trek titles. Jackson has moved easily between menace, comedy, fantasy and commercial character work. He originated the rough New Yorker voice of Mr. Mucus for Mucinex ads in 2004 and performed the role for ten years. Whether playing a caller with murderous intentions, an agitated cartoon mastermind or a cryptic Wonderland creature, he has built a career around making a voice feel like a fully formed character.
