Neve Campbell

Neve Campbell has built a career around a quality that served Sidney Prescott particularly well: composure that never hides the tension underneath. Born in Guelph, Ontario, on October 3, 1973, the Canadian actress began as a dancer. After seeing The Nutcracker at six, she pursued ballet, trained at the National Ballet School of Canada and appeared in productions of The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. Dance-related injuries eventually pushed her toward acting at 15, including stage work in The Phantom of the Opera in Toronto. Early Canadian television roles led to Party of Five, where Campbell played Julia Salinger for six seasons. The series became her breakthrough, but film quickly showed how difficult she was to pin down. She appeared in The Craft before director Wes Craven asked her to audition for Scream, believing she could project innocence while handling the role's emotional and physical demands. Wild Things allowed her to move away from the expectations created by Party of Five, while The Company brought her screen career back into contact with ballet. She co-wrote, produced and starred in the Robert Altman-directed film, developing an idea she had conceived in her teens. Her later work has moved between theatre, independent drama, action films and television, including House of Cards, Skyscraper, Clouds, The Lincoln Lawyer and Twisted Metal. Across those shifts, Campbell's appeal remains remarkably consistent.
