Daniel Craig
Daniel Craig brings a tightly wound intensity to the screen, whether he is playing a man in control or one whose composure is beginning to crack. Born in Chester on 2 March 1968, the English actor started performing in school plays as a child before joining the National Youth Theatre and training at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His first screen role came in The Power of One in 1992, followed by work across television, film and theatre. The BBC drama Our Friends in the North became an important breakthrough, while later performances showed how comfortably he could move between intimate drama and large-scale filmmaking. In Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Craig played the love interest of Angelina Jolie’s adventurer. Road to Perdition gave him the darker role of Connor Rooney, the volatile son of a crime boss, and Steven Spielberg’s Munich cast him as a South African driver involved in a covert Israeli government mission. Craig’s career changed decisively when he became James Bond in Casino Royale. He approached the part with an emphasis on emotional depth, bringing physical force and visible vulnerability to a character often defined by polish. Quantum of Solace, one of the Craig films featured by Please Rewind, continued his tenure as Bond. He ultimately played the character across five films, ending with No Time to Die in 2021. Bond may have brought worldwide recognition, but Craig has continued to make room for less predictable work. He played investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, embraced comedy in Logan Lucky and found another sharply tailored detective role as Benoit Blanc in Knives Out and Glass Onion. Alongside his film career, he has repeatedly returned to the stage, including productions of Othello, Betrayal and Macbeth. Across those choices, the consistent quality is tension: Craig is especially compelling when stillness feels like something that could break at any moment.
