Brian Wimmer took an unusual route to acting. Born on October 1, 1959, in Orem, Utah, and raised in nearby Provo, he originally expected to build a career in the ski industry rather than appear on screen. His father, Larry, was an economics professor at Brigham Young University, while his mother was Louise Wimmer. Wimmer began working as a ranch hand at Robert Redford’s Sundance Resort while still in high school. He remained employed there for ten years, an experience that established a lasting connection to Utah’s outdoor life even as his work moved into film and television. As an actor, Wimmer appeared across both formats. In the 1990 television movie The World’s Oldest Living Bridesmaid, he played Alex. The following year brought the film role of Willie Husband in Late for Dinner. In 1993, he took on a much darker part, playing a rapist in the television thriller Kiss of a Killer. These roles reflect a screen career that moved between romantic television material, feature-film storytelling and more threatening dramatic territory. Away from acting, Wimmer returned to the kind of outdoor work that had shaped his early plans. Since 2004, he has owned and operated Fly Fishing Provo River, running trips and working as a guide. In 2016, he helped create the Sundance Fly Fishing program and Fly Shop at Sundance Mountain Resort, where he continues to operate. His fly-fishing experience has also taken him around the world as a VIP guest angler and as a host for ESPN’s Fly Fishing America and Fly Fishing the World. Wimmer’s career brings together two distinct strands: an acting résumé spanning film and television, and a long-running professional life built around Utah’s rivers and mountains.
