Brian Klugman

Brian Klugman has built a varied screen career by moving between acting, writing and directing rather than settling into one lane. Born on September 15, 1975, and raised in Philadelphia, he has worked across film and television, often playing characters with a sharply defined perspective—students, activists, doctors and people caught in considerably more dangerous circumstances. His credits span the teen ensemble Can’t Hardly Wait, the television drama Joan of Arcadia, Dreamland and Cloverfield. He also appeared in The Bogus Witch Project and National Lampoon’s Adam & Eve. In the 2009 horror thriller Vacancy 2: The First Cut, he played Reece, adding a more threatening genre entry to a filmography that regularly changes tone. Television has given Klugman room to make an impression in recurring and guest roles. He played Kirby Gardner, a student who appeared across several episodes of Frasier, and activist Macleod Sinclair in a fifth-season episode of Psych. On Bones, he took on the role of Dr. Oliver Wells. Together, those parts show the range of settings in which he has worked, from tightly constructed comedy to procedural television. Klugman’s career also extends beyond performance. He is a writer, screenwriter and film director, and he shares story credit on 2010’s Tron: Legacy with Lee Sternthal; Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz wrote the screenplay. That combination of work in front of the camera and behind it gives his career an interesting shape: he is as comfortable contributing to the foundation of a large-scale film as he is stepping into a specific supporting role. His paternal grandfather, Reuben, was the brother of actor Jack Klugman, but Brian Klugman’s own path has been defined by its mix of disciplines and genres.
