Brett Favre

Brett Favre comes to the Talent Wall from the world of professional football rather than acting. Born on October 10, 1969, in Gulfport, Mississippi, he was raised in the small town of Kiln by parents who taught in the Hancock County School District. At Hancock North Central High School, Favre played baseball and filled an unusually broad range of football positions, including quarterback, lineman, strong safety, placekicker and punter. Southern Mississippi gave Favre his only football scholarship offer. He began his freshman season as the seventh-string quarterback before taking over the starting job during the third game. His college career included an upset victory over sixth-ranked Florida State and a remarkable return from a nearly fatal car accident. Eight weeks after the crash, he led Southern Miss to a comeback win over Alabama. Favre entered the NFL when the Atlanta Falcons selected him in the second round of the 1991 draft, but his career found its defining home after a trade to the Green Bay Packers in 1992. He played 16 seasons in Green Bay, won three consecutive AP Most Valuable Player awards and helped the Packers reach two Super Bowls. Their victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI made him a champion. Durability became as central to Favre’s career as his passing. His run of 297 consecutive regular-season starts remains the NFL record, rising to 321 when playoff games are included. After leaving Green Bay, he played for the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings, reaching another NFC Championship Game with Minnesota before his final NFL appearance in 2010. He officially filed his retirement papers in January 2011. Favre is also associated with work as a NASCAR team owner.
