Branscombe Richmond has built a screen career around a commanding physical presence and an ability to fit naturally into tough, action-driven worlds. Born in Los Angeles in 1955 and raised in Encino, California, he is of Native Hawaiian, Tahitian, French, English and Spanish descent. His work has crossed film, television, voice acting, stunt performance, music, producing and directing. Richmond is best known to many viewers as Bobby Sixkiller in the 1990s syndicated television series Renegade. The role made him a familiar face, but it was part of a much broader run on television. He played policeman Harker throughout the short-lived Hawaiian Heat in 1984, then Sergeant Luke Halui in all 13 episodes of Heart of the City in 1986. He also appeared in series including Magnum, P.I., MacGyver, Walker, Texas Ranger, The A-Team, Vega$, Jake and the Fatman and The Highwayman. His film credits place him across several distinct corners of popular cinema. Richmond appeared in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, Action Jackson, Licence to Kill, Hard to Kill, Aces: Iron Eagle III, Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man, Christopher Columbus: The Discovery and Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. In The Scorpion King, he played the half-brother of Mathayus. Taken together, those roles show a performer repeatedly at home in adventure, spectacle and hard-edged genre filmmaking. Richmond’s work has never been limited to appearing on camera. He voiced Gibraltar in the video game Apex Legends and formed Branscombe Richmond and the Renegade Posse in 1989, touring with the band when not working in film or television. He was inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2003. In 2023, he and his son Fairai directed the children’s film Kangaroo Kids in southern Kentucky. He later appeared in the 2025 series Chief of War, about the wars between Hawai‘i’s kingdoms in the 1700s—a fitting addition to a career shaped by range, physicality and a strong connection to Hawaiian identity.
