Brad Davis
Brad Davis (1949β1991) was an American actor whose career extended across film, television and the stage. That range matters: rather than belonging to just one corner of the profession, Davis built his working identity through several forms of performance. He was born in Tallahassee, Florida, on November 6, 1949, to Eugene Davis, a dentist, and Anne Creel Davis. Known as Bobby during his youth, he adopted Brad as his stage name in 1973, a simple change that became part of his public identity as an actor. He attended and graduated from Titusville High School. Acting also ran in the family: his brother, Gene Davis, became an actor as well. Davisβs personal story was considerably more difficult than a straightforward career summary might suggest. His fatherβs career declined because of alcoholism, and Davisβs widow, Susan Bluestein, described a childhood marked by physical and sexual abuse in a 1997 interview with The New York Times. As an adult, Davis experienced alcoholism and intravenous drug use before becoming sober in 1981. Those details should not reduce Davis to his struggles, but they form part of the context around a life spent working in demanding, public-facing forms. His credits were spread across stage, film and television, reflecting an actor willing to work through different formats rather than remain confined to one medium. Born in 1949 and living until 1991, Davis left behind a career that continues to invite viewers to look beyond the outline of a biography and return to the performances themselves.
