Bob Marley
Bob Marley is an American comedian and actor whose work has remained closely tied to Maine. Born in Bangor on April 4, 1967, Marley has made life in the state the central subject of much of his comedy. That regional focus gives his routines a distinct point of view: Maine is not simply where he comes from, but the everyday world he repeatedly returns to for material. His first television appearance was on Comedy Central, bringing that perspective to a national audience. Marley has also taken his comedy into radio, guest-hosting on XM Radio’s Blue Collar Radio and RawDog Comedy channels. As of 2013, he was appearing weekly on Portland station Coast 93.1-WMGX in a segment titled “The World According to Bob,” a fitting name for a performer whose comedy is shaped by close observations of the place he knows. Marley’s screen work includes Detective Greenly in The Boondock Saints. He later reprised the role in The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, giving him a recurring place across the two films. The part also shows another side of his career: alongside comedy routines and radio appearances, he has worked as an actor within a movie ensemble. Across those different formats, the consistent thread is Marley’s identity as a Maine comedian. His career has moved between television, film and radio without losing that geographic center. Whether appearing as Detective Greenly or talking about ordinary life in Maine, Marley’s work is grounded in a specific sense of place—and in the comic possibilities he finds there.
