Billy Jayne

Billy Jayne entered acting almost by accident. Born in Flushing, Queens, New York City, on April 10, 1969, he was three years old when he visited his older half-brother Scott Jacoby on the set of That Certain Summer. When the director needed someone to play Jacoby in flashbacks, Jayne was chosen, beginning a screen career unusually early. He initially worked under the name Billy Jacoby. Although Jacoby was not his birth surname, his mother believed using the name of his already established half-brother would help as he started acting. At 17, he changed his professional name to Billy Jayne to match his birth name. Jayne became a familiar young face on television throughout the 1980s, moving through guest roles on series including Trapper John, M.D., The A-Team and 21 Jump Street. On The Golden Girls, he played David, Blanche’s rebellious 14-year-old grandson. Those appearances often put him in the role of the restless or troublesome teenager, a quality that also shaped one of his best-known film parts: Buddy, Terry’s brother, in the 1985 comedy Just One of the Guys. His most sustained television role arrived with Parker Lewis Can’t Lose. From 1990 to 1993, Jayne starred in the teen sitcom alongside Corin Nemec, giving him a prominent place in a series built around heightened school comedy and youthful mischief. After the show ended, he continued appearing in smaller television roles rather than following a single straight career path. His later credits included Renegade, Murder One, Walker, Texas Ranger, Charmed and, in 2009, Cold Case. Taken together, Jayne’s work traces a career that began on a set at age three, developed through the busy world of 1980s guest television and teen comedy, and continued through appearances across several decades of American TV.
