Bill Dow
Bill Dow is a Canadian actor and director whose career moves comfortably between television, film and the stage. His screen work is marked by the kind of steady character acting that gives a series room to build a wider world, whether he is returning in a recurring role or making a focused guest appearance. Dow played Russ Hathaway in the Canadian drama Da Vinci's Inquest and Mr. Parkman in Pasadena. Viewers of The X-Files may also know him as Dr. Charles Burks, while his other television work includes appearances in Kyle XY. On film, he played Dr. Veet in Absolute Zero and appeared as Ben's driver in the 2015 film Autumn Dreams. Together, these roles show the breadth of a career shaped less by one signature part than by consistent work across different productions and formats. His experience extends well beyond the screen. Dow has performed numerous leading roles in theatre, including Martin Dysart in Peter Shaffer's Equus, a performance that earned him a Jessie Award in 2004. He has also directed several award-winning productions for the Vancouver Playhouse, where he spent many years as an Artistic Associate. That combination of acting, directing and developing work for the stage gives Dow's career an unusually broad foundation. He served as associate artistic director at both the Blyth Festival and the Belfry Theatre, as well as resident dramaturge at the Banff Playwrights Colony. Whether appearing in a television mystery, taking a supporting film role or working behind the scenes in Canadian theatre, Dow has built a varied body of work grounded in the practical craft of performance and production.
