Bettina Kupfer
Bettina Kupfer is a German actress and writer whose career spans theatre, film and television. Born on July 19, 1963, in Kornwestheim, she completed her Abitur at the town’s Ernst-Sigle-Gymnasium before studying English, German and philosophy at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. She later graduated with a degree in drama. Kupfer built her craft through sustained stage work, taking successive engagements at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and Theater Basel. That foundation gave her a career shape familiar to many accomplished German performers: theatre at its centre, with screen roles extending her reach to a wider audience. Her film breakthrough came in 1993 when she played Regina Perlman in Schindler’s List. Two years later, Kupfer took the central role in the television movie Das Wunschkind, a performance that earned her the 1996 Bavarian TV Award for Best Actress. Television became another substantial part of her work. She was the lead actress in the German series Drei mit Herz and appeared in guest roles on Wolffs Revier and Ein Fall für zwei. From 1996 to 1997, she played secretary Daniela Holm in Girl friends – Freundschaft mit Herz, adding a continuing series role to a screen career already moving between major films, television drama and episodic appearances. Kupfer’s work is not limited to acting. She is also associated with writing, including screenwriting and children’s literature. Taken together, her stage engagements, film breakthrough, award-winning television work and writing reflect a career built across several forms rather than around a single kind of role.
