Balthazar Getty

Balthazar Getty has built a career that moves freely between film, television and music. Born January 22, 1975, in Tarzana, California, he was brought up in San Francisco and later educated at Gordonstoun in Scotland. His acting career began at 12, after casting director Robin Joy Allan spotted him in an art class and he auditioned for the lead role in Lord of the Flies. Getty’s film work during the 1990s and early 2000s covered a notably varied stretch of American cinema. His credits from the period include Young Guns II, Natural Born Killers, Judge Dredd, Mr. Holland’s Opus, White Squall and Lost Highway. He later appeared in Big City Blues, The Center of the World, Deuces Wild, Ladder 49 and Feast, building a filmography that rarely stayed in one lane for long. Television gave Getty room to take on more sustained roles. He guest-starred on Charmed as Richard Montana, a male witch romantically linked with Paige Matthews, and joined the fifth season of Alias as Agent Thomas Grace. He then starred alongside fellow Alias actor Ron Rifkin in the ABC drama Brothers & Sisters, playing Thomas “Tommy” Walker, the third-born of the five Walker siblings. Although his presence became less regular later in the series, he continued to return until the show’s cancellation. His television work also includes the miniseries Traffic and Numb3rs. Music has run alongside acting for much of Getty’s life. He began DJing and making electronic music at 15, became a member of the indie rock and electronic band Ringside, and worked as producer for the hip-hop duo The Wow. In 2013, he operated Purplehaus Records and established Purplehaus Productions in Los Angeles. That combination of acting, producing and music gives his career an unusually broad shape, with creative work extending well beyond the screen.
