Anthony Natale

Anthony Natale is an American-Canadian film and television actor whose screen work moves comfortably between drama and comedy. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, he attended the Drury School for the Deaf before transferring to a mainstreaming program for gifted students, where he graduated as valedictorian. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production with a minor in Theater Arts from California State University, Northridge. Natale has often taken roles that place deaf characters and experiences at the center of the story. In Mr. Holland's Opus, he played the adult Coltrane "Cole" Holland, the 90-percent-deaf son of Glenn and Iris Holland. The part gave him a place within the film's central family relationship and its broader interest in communication, expectation and understanding. His range is also visible in a prominent 1997 appearance on Ellen, in the episode "Ellen's Deaf Comedy Jam." Natale later appeared in Curb Your Enthusiasm, another series built around sharply observed, frequently uncomfortable comedy. His film credits include Jerry Maguire and Universal Signs, extending his work across both studio filmmaking and smaller-scale drama. On television, Natale portrayed Cameron Bledsoe on Switched at Birth, a series in which deaf culture and communication are fundamental to the characters rather than incidental details. He also played Captain Thom in several episodes of Nancy Drew, bringing him into the show's mystery-driven world. Across these roles, Natale's career reflects an ability to work in very different registers without losing the specificity of the character in front of him. Whether appearing in a family drama, a sitcom or a supernatural mystery, he has built a screen career around parts that contribute something distinct to the larger ensemble.
