Anna Slotky

Anna Slotky followed a distinctive path from familiar family movies and television comedies to a career in law. Born in Buffalo Grove on June 30, 1981, she became recognizable to movie audiences as Brooke, one of the McCallister children in Home Alone (1990). She returned for Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), once again finding a place within the busy ensemble surrounding the family’s holiday misadventures. Slotky also built a steady television résumé. She starred as Ruth Ann in The Torkelsons, a role that gave her more room than the crowded McCallister household, and later appeared repeatedly as Denise on Sister, Sister. Guest roles on Doctor Doctor, Step by Step and 3rd Rock from the Sun placed her across several corners of American television comedy. Her final acting credit was a guest appearance on the Fox series Get Real in 2000. What makes Slotky’s career especially interesting is its clear second act away from the screen. Rather than continuing along the usual acting path, she entered the legal profession. She was admitted to the State Bar of California in 2009 and went on to work as a public defender for Los Angeles County. For many viewers, Slotky remains most immediately associated with the two Home Alone films, where Brooke is part of the sprawling family commotion that sets the story in motion. Yet her television work shows a broader career than those holiday favorites alone might suggest. From a starring sitcom role to recurring and guest appearances, she moved comfortably through ensemble comedy before leaving acting behind. Her later work as an attorney gives that compact screen career an uncommon shape: a collection of well-known film and television appearances followed by a substantially different public-service profession.
