Angela Goethals

Angela Goethals has worked across film, television and the stage, building a career that began in New York theatre before moving through family comedy, network sitcoms, drama and guest roles. Born and raised in New York City, she was introduced to acting by family friend Jeanie Hackett, who took her to auditions. At nine, Goethals landed her first professional job as an understudy to Sarah Michelle Gellar in Horton Foote’s off-Broadway play The Widow Claire. Her first movie role came in 1988 with Rocket Gibraltar, followed later that year by Heartbreak Hotel. In 1990, she played Linnie, Kevin McCallister’s sister, in Home Alone. It is a supporting role, but one that places her firmly within the movie’s crowded and carefully drawn McCallister household. She later appeared in Jerry Maguire as Kathy Sanders, the client who produces fake tears when Jerry calls to tell her that he is leaving the agency. Goethals received her first television starring role in Phenom, playing Angela Doolan, a young tennis player dealing with the pressures and complications of everyday life. The ABC series ran for 22 episodes. She later starred as Polly in Comedy Central’s original movie Porn ’n Chicken and played the lead character’s sister in the time-travel sitcom Do Over. Her television work also includes a recurring appearance on 24 as Maya Driscoll, daughter of CTU Los Angeles director Erin Driscoll. Goethals has made guest appearances on Boston Public, Six Feet Under, Without a Trace, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI and Crossing Jordan, while her film work also includes a minor role in Spanglish. That mix of stage foundations, comedy and dramatic television gives Goethals’ career a pleasingly varied shape. Whether playing part of an unruly family ensemble or stepping into the tighter demands of an episodic drama, she has moved comfortably among different formats without being confined to a single kind of role.
