Angélica Aragón
Angélica Aragón is a Mexican actor whose career extends across film, television and the stage. Born Angelica Espinoza Stransky in Mexico City on July 11, 1953, she grew up with an unusually close view of the entertainment world through her father, the Mexican actor and composer José Ángel Espinoza, known as “Ferrusquilla.” As a child, she frequently accompanied him between television and film sets, making those working environments part of her life well before acting became her own occupation. Aragón was the elder daughter of Espinoza and Sonia Stransky. Her parents divorced when she was three, and she lived with her mother and younger sister, Vindia, in Mexico City’s Colonia del Valle while also spending considerable time with her father. Her mother worked as secretary to the musician Carlos Chávez, adding another creative connection to the household. On her mother’s side, Aragón also has two half-siblings, Jacqueline and John. Her family background reached beyond Mexico. Aragón’s maternal grandfather was Czech and served as a soldier under Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary, fighting in the First World War. It is one strand of a family history shaped by different countries, disciplines and cultural traditions. Rather than remaining tied to a single kind of performance, Aragón established herself as a film, television and stage actor. That movement between mediums is central to understanding her career: screen acting and live performance require different rhythms, and her professional identity encompasses all three. Her early familiarity with studios and sets provides meaningful context, but Aragón’s place in Mexican acting rests on the career she developed in her own right.
