Andrew Wilson

Dallas-born Andrew Wilson has built a screen career defined less by a single signature role than by steady, varied work and a long-running creative partnership with his family. Born on August 22, 1964, Wilson is the eldest of three sons of photographer Laura Cunningham Wilson and Robert Andrew Wilson, an advertising executive who also operated a public television station. His younger brothers, Owen and Luke Wilson, are actors as well; all three attended St. Mark’s School of Texas. Working in entertainment since the early 1990s, Wilson has appeared in more than two dozen films. His credits include three Wes Anderson movies, among them The Royal Tenenbaums, as well as The Big Bounce, Fever Pitch, Idiocracy, Church Ball, Whip It!, Hall Pass, Druid Peak and Time Trap. The range of those projects reflects the shape of his career: a familiar supporting presence moving comfortably between different casts and filmmaking styles rather than being tied to one kind of movie. Collaboration has been a recurring part of Wilson’s work. He appeared alongside Owen in The Big Year and has worked with both brothers in front of and behind the camera. In 2005, Andrew and Luke co-directed The Wendell Baker Story, with Luke playing the title role and Owen also appearing. That project neatly captures the family’s overlapping creative paths while marking Andrew’s work as a director. Wilson is also associated with film producing, giving his career a broader scope than acting alone. Whether appearing in an ensemble or helping guide a film from behind the camera, he has maintained a durable place in American movies through an eclectic body of work and repeated collaborations with filmmakers and family alike.
