Andrew Keegan

Andrew Keegan is an American film, television and stage actor whose career has moved comfortably between teen comedy, family television, romantic drama and darker genre work. Born in Los Angeles on January 29, 1979, he first gained recognition as Zack Dell in the 1994 comedy Camp Nowhere. Recurring television work soon followed in Thunder Alley, along with appearances in Full House, Party of Five and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Keegan became a familiar television presence through 7th Heaven, playing a single teenage father in love with Jessica Biel’s character, Mary. On film, one of his best-known turns came in 10 Things I Hate About You, where he played the smug antagonist opposite Heath Ledger in the modern adaptation of The Taming of the Shrew. The role made good use of Keegan’s ability to turn easy confidence into something more calculating. Shakespearean adaptations became an unexpected thread in his film work. After 10 Things I Hate About You, he appeared as Mekhi Phifer’s best friend in O, an adaptation of Othello, and later joined A Midsummer Night’s Rave, inspired by A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He also appeared in Greg Berlanti’s ensemble film The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy, which received the GLAAD Award for Best Picture. His later work continued to shift in tone. Keegan took supporting and starring roles in Cruel World, A New Wave, Kill Speed and Love, Wedding, Marriage. In 2009, he made his stage debut in He Asked for It, playing Rigby, a man confronting the emotional realities of being HIV-positive. He returned to villainous territory as the sadistic vampire Blake in Living Among Us, then appeared in a praised 2020 episode of Trinkets and the crime drama Adverse. Across those projects, Keegan has shown a particular knack for characters whose surface charm can conceal insecurity, arrogance or genuine menace.
