Andrea Baker

Andrea Baker’s career has moved across stage, film and television, but voice acting has long been at its center. Born on July 7, 1970, in Washington, D.C., Baker graduated from Georgetown University before setting out on a cross-country drive with a friend. More than six weeks later, the trip ended in Los Angeles, where she began building a path into acting. A six-week Acting for Commercials course at Tepper Gallegos Casting introduced Baker to Steve Simon, who became her agent. She later signed with Arlene Thornton’s voice-over agency and began performing in commercials and television in 1993. Those early voice assignments established the direction her career would eventually take, though she also pursued on-screen and stage work. Baker made her first screen appearance in a small role on General Hospital in 1997. After graduating from DW Brown’s studio, she auditioned for a role in the 1998 feature Pleasantville. Another important connection came through Barbara Harris, who introduced her to filmmaker Nancy Meyers. Meyers hired Baker as an “inner voice” actress on What Women Want, a role that sits neatly at the intersection of live-action filmmaking and the off-camera craft Baker had been developing for years. Since 2001, Baker has worked exclusively as a voice actress. It is a form of performance built on timing, tone and character without the usual visual tools, and Baker’s career reflects a sustained commitment to that side of the profession. Her experience is not limited to recording booths and screens, however. She has also appeared in plays for Afternoon Theatre, Basement Productions and Joanne Baron Studios. Taken together, Baker’s work shows a performer who explored several corners of acting before making voice performance her primary focus—a career shaped not by one highly publicized turn, but by steady work across different formats.
