Amy Locane

Amy Locane is an American film and television actor whose career stretches from early sitcom work to cult comedy, studio drama and independent film. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, on December 19, 1971, she was raised in Lawrence Township and graduated from Villa Victoria Academy in 1989. Locane started working remarkably young. By the age of 12, she had appeared in more than 60 commercials and landed a regular role on the sitcom Spencer. Her big-screen debut came in the 1989 independent teen drama Lost Angels, where she starred opposite Adam Horovitz. A year later, she took the lead role of Allison Vernon-Williams opposite Johnny Depp in John Waters’ Cry-Baby. The romantic comedy was a commercial failure but later grew into a cult favorite, giving Locane one of the most widely recognized roles of her career. Her work during the 1990s moved easily between television and film. Locane joined the original cast of Fox’s Melrose Place in 1992, leaving after 13 episodes. That same year, she appeared as the girlfriend of Brendan Fraser’s character in School Ties, a dynamic repeated in the 1994 comedy Airheads. She also played Jessica Lange’s daughter in the drama Blue Sky. Locane continued taking roles across a varied run of projects. She appeared opposite Dennis Hopper in Carried Away, starred alongside Ben Affleck and Rose McGowan in Going All the Way, and worked with Jared Leto in Prefontaine. The black comedy Bongwater and fantasy horror film Bram Stoker’s Legend of the Mummy showed a further willingness to move between tones and genres. She also returned to television for the Christmas movie Ebenezer opposite Jack Palance. Her later screen credits include The Heist and Secretary, rounding out a career shaped less by one fixed screen persona than by movement between teen drama, comedy, horror and more adult character pieces.
