Amber Heard

Amber Heard is an American actor whose screen career has moved between independent films, television, studio comedies and large-scale superhero productions. Born in Austin, Texas, on April 22, 1986, she left Catholic high school as a teenager to pursue acting in Los Angeles, later earning her diploma through a home-study course. After early television appearances in Jack & Bobby, The Mountain and The O.C., Heard made her film debut with a minor role in Friday Night Lights in 2004. Her first lead arrived in All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, an unconventional slasher that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2006 but faced a long, complicated path to release. The role gave Heard a more psychologically ambiguous showcase than the straightforward love-interest parts that would sometimes follow. Wider recognition came through two very different 2008 films: the comedy Pineapple Express and the martial-arts drama Never Back Down. She continued to shift between tones and scales, appearing in The Joneses, Zombieland, Drive Angry and The Rum Diary before taking roles in Paranoia, Machete Kills and 3 Days to Kill. In 2015 alone, her work ranged from Magic Mike XXL and The Danish Girl to the independent thriller The Adderall Diaries and the television film One More Time. For the latter, in which she played a struggling singer-songwriter, she took singing lessons and learned piano and guitar. Heard entered the DC Extended Universe as Mera in Justice League in 2017. She returned opposite Jason Momoa in Aquaman, her first major role in a studio film, and later reprised the character in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The part placed her cool, self-possessed screen presence inside a much larger fantasy spectacle. Her television work has included The Playboy Club and The Stand, the Stephen King adaptation in which she played plague survivor Nadine Cross. In 2023, she took the lead in Conor Allyn’s In the Fire, continuing a career that has repeatedly crossed between genre filmmaking, independent drama and mainstream productions.
