Alexander Gould

Alexander Gould began acting at just two years old, building early experience through small appearances on a range of popular television shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Born in Los Angeles on May 4, 1994, he moved quickly from those brief parts to two defining roles that placed his voice and live-action work in front of large audiences. At nine, Gould voiced the title character in Finding Nemo. The role became an early showcase for his voice acting, but it did not set the limits of his career. From the ages of ten to eighteen, he played Shane Botwin throughout all eight seasons of Showtime’s Weeds. Spending that long with one character gave Gould an unusually substantial television run before reaching adulthood. His work with the cast brought two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series. Gould continued taking on other projects during his years on Weeds. He joined the ensemble of the 2006 film How to Eat Fried Worms, voiced Bambi in Bambi II and appeared as David Collins in a proposed remake of the soap opera Dark Shadows, although The WB did not pick up the pilot. These roles reflect a career that moved comfortably between television, film and animation rather than staying in one lane. In 2012, Gould stepped away from acting to attend college and pursue other interests. His screen work became occasional rather than constant, with voice appearances as Jimmy Olsen in the 2013 animated film Superman: Unbound and a cameo in 2016’s Finding Dory. He joined the Abrams Acting Agency in 2018. Gould is also associated with producing, directing and screenwriting. Even so, his best-known work remains rooted in two very different kinds of long-lasting screen connection: the central voice performance in Finding Nemo and eight seasons spent growing up alongside Shane Botwin on Weeds.
