Alan Cinis

Alan Cinis has followed an unusually varied path through Australian entertainment and public life, building a screen and stage career that began when he was still a child. Born in Orange on 10 August 1960, he commenced acting in October 1969 at the age of nine. His credits span television, film, musical drama and commercial work. That long run includes The Castaways in 1974, an early television appearance that came only a few years after his career began. Decades later, he appeared in Heartbreak High in 1997 and Underbelly: The Golden Mile in 2010. Together, those series place Cinis within several distinct periods of Australian television, from family-oriented 1970s programming to two of the country's better-known television dramas of the 1990s and 2010s. Cinis also worked extensively beyond television series, with film and musical drama among his credits, as well as numerous television commercials. In 2008, he was appearing in the Australian production of Billy Elliot the Musical at Sydney's Capitol Theatre, showing that his career was not confined to the screen. That same year brought a notable change of arena. A long-term local resident, Cinis was elected to Leichhardt Council in the New South Wales local government elections, representing the Eora Leichhardt Lilyfield Ward. His campaign focused strongly on crime and community safety, alongside an expressed interest in working with underprivileged young people. The combination of acting and local politics makes Cinis a distinctive figure in Australian public life. His career reaches from childhood performance through television drama, film, commercials and musical theatre, while his election to council added a civic chapter alongside his decades in the entertainment industry.
