Ahmed Ahmed

Ahmed Ahmed has built a career that moves easily between acting, stand-up comedy and directing. Born in Helwan, Egypt, on June 27, 1970, he moved with his family to the United States when he was one month old and was raised in Riverside, California. At 19, he headed to Hollywood to pursue work as both an actor and comedian. His screen credits span film and television, including appearances in Executive Decision, Swingers, Tracey Takes On..., Roseanne, JAG, Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and MTV’s Punk’d. He also held a regular role on the TBS sitcom Sullivan & Son. That range has made him a familiar presence across very different corners of American entertainment, from studio movies and network series to late-night comedy formats and hidden-camera television. Comedy, though, has remained central to Ahmed’s career. A regular performer at The Comedy Store in Hollywood, he has toured throughout the United States and Europe. He was a member of the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, where his stand-up included a joke about his role in Executive Decision, neatly folding his acting work back into his stage persona. In 2004, he won the first Richard Pryor Award for ethnic comedy at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. Ahmed was also featured in the PBS documentary episode “STAND UP: Muslim American Comics Come of Age,” part of the America at a Crossroads series. His work and perspective have brought him to CNN, The View and National Public Radio, while his career has also been covered by The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. Across those appearances, Ahmed’s path has been defined less by a single signature role than by steady movement between performance spaces. He is an actor whose comedy informs his screen presence, and a stand-up whose film and television experiences remain part of the material.
