Adam Hann-Byrd

Adam Hann-Byrd began his film career with the kind of debut that immediately places a young actor at the centre of an ambitious project. Born in New York City on February 23, 1982, he first appeared on screen in 1991’s Little Man Tate, directed by and starring Jodie Foster. It was an early introduction to substantial dramatic material and the beginning of a compact but distinctive run of 1990s roles. For many viewers, Hann-Byrd is most familiar as the young Alan Parrish in 1995’s Jumanji. Appearing at age 13, he played the childhood version of the character portrayed as an adult by Robin Williams. It is a relatively brief part, but an essential one: the film’s entire adventure grows out of Alan’s discovery of the game and the consequences that follow. Hann-Byrd continued acting in Diabolique in 1996 and The Ice Storm in 1997. In 1998, he appeared as Charlie Deveraux in Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, bringing him into one of horror cinema’s established series. Uninvited followed in 1999. Taken together, these films show a career moving through markedly different kinds of screen stories rather than settling into a single lane. His later work shifted behind the camera. In 2009, Hann-Byrd joined the writers room for the second and third seasons of Fringe. He subsequently wrote for the Hulu series The Morning After and worked as a writer and producer on Participant Media’s Brain Food Daily. Since August 2024, he has served as a Senior Narrative Designer at Series Entertainment Inc., contributing to an undisclosed project. That progression—from performing in major films at a young age to writing, producing and narrative design—gives Hann-Byrd’s career an interesting shape. His most recognisable performances remain rooted in 1990s cinema, while his later work reflects an ongoing engagement with how stories are built off-screen.
