Abigail Breslin

Abigail Breslin has been acting on screen since childhood, but the appeal of her work has never rested on precociousness alone. Born in New York City on April 14, 1996, she began her career at three in a Toys “R” Us commercial before making her film debut as Bo Hess in M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs. Even at that early stage, critics noticed the natural quality she brought to the role. Her breakthrough came with Little Miss Sunshine, the 2006 comedy-drama in which she played Olive Hoover, the youngest member of a dysfunctional family heading across the country for a beauty pageant. Breslin gave Olive an openhearted determination that held its own amid the film’s larger personalities. The performance earned her Screen Actors Guild and Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress, making her the fourth-youngest nominee in that Oscar category. The years that followed showed how comfortably Breslin could move between tones. She played family-centered roles in No Reservations, Definitely, Maybe and My Sister’s Keeper, took the lead in the adventure film Nim’s Island and carried the title role in Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. As Little Rock in Zombieland, she found a place in a sharp horror-comedy ensemble, later returning for Zombieland: Double Tap. Breslin’s career has also extended beyond film. She made her Broadway debut as Helen Keller in a 2010 revival of The Miracle Worker and later joined the television horror-comedy Scream Queens as Libby Putney, better known through most of the series as Chanel #5. Her screen work has continued across thrillers, dramas and genre films, including The Call, Haunter, August: Osage County, Ender’s Game and Stillwater. What connects these varied roles is Breslin’s ability to make young characters feel specific rather than decorative. Whether working inside a family drama, a broad comedy or a tense thriller, she brings a grounded directness that has remained a clear feature of her screen presence.
