A.J. Johnson

A.J. Johnson, also known as Adrienne-Joi Johnson, is an American film and television actor whose career moves comfortably between studio comedies, independent features, television drama and made-for-TV movies. Born on September 3, 1963, in Orange and raised in Fair Haven, New Jersey, she graduated from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in 1981. She later attended Spelman College in Atlanta, graduating with honors in 1985, and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. Johnson’s screen work reflects the range of late-1980s and 1990s American entertainment. Her film credits include Spike Lee’s School Daze, the comedy House Party and the hit musical comedy Sister Act. She also appeared in The Inkwell and Baby Boy, as well as Double Trouble, High Freakquency, Two Shades of Blue, Tara and Skin Deep. Taken together, those films show a performer willing to work across different tones and scales, from widely released pictures to independent productions. Television has been just as central to her career.
